Description
This silver sceat coin originated in West Saxon kingdom of Wessex and dates from the late 600s and early 700s. Wessex was the only kingdom to survive the Viking onslaught of the 9th century and the rulers of Wessex eventually became kings and queens of England. It features a crudely designed serpent with radiant quills coiled around a central cross.------
