    Description

This silver sceat coin was commissioned by the Anglo-Saxon ruler “Eadberht”, who was king of Northumbria. It was produced by the Eoferwik (York) mint, and circulated from 737-758 AD. It features a mythical heraldic beast (historically referred to as the “fantastic animal”) above the famous Viking “triquetra” symbol. Versions containing a triquetra at the bottom were only scarcely produced.
